Working with Complex Survey Weights: Calculation, Adjustment, and Post-survey Calibration

Population survey analyses rely on using valid survey weights. Creating and adjusting these weights is critical to ensuring that analyses of survey data accurately reflect the population and yield correct conclusions. This workshop will introduce participants to methods for creating, adjusting, and applying survey weights, including:
  • Creating base weights
  • Modifying weights to handle data collection challenges such as nonresponse
  • Adjusting post-survey weights by post-stratification, calibration, and raking
  • Analyzing hierarchical data with multiple sets of weights
Methods will be illustrated through examples in R, with companion syntax provided for Stata.
