Population surveys are often implemented using a complex design which can include features such as stratification, clustering, multi-stage sampling, and weighting. The statistical analysis of such a survey will yield incorrect results if the design is not properly taken into consideration in the analysis.
In this hands-on workshop, we will demonstrate how to analyze complex survey data using the statistical software package SAS. We will use two publicly available data sources as examples: the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), and the Current Population Survey (CPS) from the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS). However the methods presented will be applicable to complex surveys in general.
Participants should feel comfortable with the material covered in Design and Analysis of Complex Surveys workshop. If you intend follow along with the SAS demonstrations during the workshop, please make sure that you have SAS installed on your personal computer. The latest version of SAS can be purchased via the CIT website, https://it.cornell.edu/software-licensing/sas-licensing. Alternatively, you can also request a free research computing account through the Cornell Center for Social Sciences by visiting https://accounts.computing.socialsciences.cornell.edu which will allow you to access SAS through a remote desktop.
