Introduction to Survey Methodology and Questionnaire Development

From course evaluations to public opinion polls, survey research is a great way to extract specific data from select populations. However, in order to collect valid data, it is essential to have a solid foundation of survey basics prior to launching a study. This workshop will guide you through the basic process of designing and executing a high quality survey.

Topics include:

  • Survey planning
  • Survey modes and their advantages/disadvantages
  • Sample types
  • Types of error
  • Refusals/Missing data
  • Questionnaire writing guidelines
  • Avoiding common mistakes

This introductory workshop is appropriate for all members of the Cornell community.

This workshop is offered by the Survey Research Institute.

Fee: None to members of the Cornell community, but registration is required. Since space is limited, early registration is encouraged.
